Fire Safety – Fire Trucks

Any week that we talk about how to keep our children safer is a good week in my book!  The children really learned a lot this week, and hopefully will be better prepared if they ever had to face something scary like a fire.  We reviewed all of the safety tips we have learned this week and made Fire Trucks out of construction paper.

Fire Safety – Stop, Drop, and Roll

If your clothes catch on fire don’t run, that will make the fire get bigger!  If your clothes catch on fire, drop to the ground, cover your face, and roll back and forth.  The children all practiced stop, drop, and roll today.  We added fire to our block center, and talked about how it is never okay to play with real fire.  We also used different shades of red, yellow, and orange crayons to create our artwork.  Some of the children discovered that you could color with 3, 4, or even 5 crayons at the same time.   Our song of the week is Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Fire Truck but I am warning you, it will get stuck in your head!

REMINDER: We have special visitors coming tomorrow to talk to the children about Fire Safety!  Book Orders are due today!

Fire Safety – Get Out!

Safety tip for today… If there is a fire get out!  Don’t grab your toys, or go back in for your coat, if there is a fire just get out.  Hiding is a big thing we worry about with children.  Children need to know if the fire/smoke alarm goes off don’t get scared and hide, just get out of the house and meet at a meeting spot.  It is very important to practice fire drills at home too, not just at school.   Make sure your child knows where to go and what to do if he/she hears the alarm go off.  Don’t wait practice tonight!  We added spots to our fire dog at table time, and our VIP shared some of her favorite things.  Thanks Miss Wendy for playing so I could take care of my Big Emilea again!
